Lessons Learnt in Leadership

We spoke with CEO Jared Higgins about the challenges, mistakes and risks when leading a business.

Naturally there are a multitude of challenges, which stand out for you?

‘Challenges are a daily occurrence, that’s a given in our industry. You build a company on your personal values and you want to ensure every new member in the group understands them and lives the Arcfyre way.

The Arcfyre way is understanding the importance of client satisfaction. It’s exceptional professionalism, communication and service delivery – and it’s integral to every part of the business. Sourcing the best-suited candidates can be challenging, as it’s not only about skills and qualifications but also a person’s character, ambition and hunger to learn.

Another challenge is that not all decisions made are the right ones. It can have a financial impact, result in lost clients, or valuable time and effort wasted. It’s a challenge to manage those good and bad decisions, but each time you learn from your mistakes.’

No business is created without a little risk involved, agree?

‘Taking risks is critical for success, but it has to be calculated as it has the potential to impact so many people across the organisation. If a wrong call is made, difficult conversations are the consequence.

I have a strong team around me that I bounce ideas off, and that helps, but ultimately the final decision and outcome of such is my responsibility.’

Are mistakes made along the way?

‘A lot! But anyone who defines their roles around being successful has to make mistakes because that’s where true learning comes from.’
